Help to save your Green Belt in Cheshire

CPRE Cheshire is calling on local residents to provide evidence that the surrounding Green Belt is of value and should be protected.

CPRE supports the fundamental aim of Green Belt planning policy to prevent urban sprawl by keeping land permanently open.

Our Branch is concerned that the Government had repeatedly promised to protect Green Belt, yet since the introduction of the National Planning Policy Framework we have witnessed an acceleration of Green Belt loss.

Any strategic review of Green Belt must identify whether parcels of land serve one or more of the five purposes:

• to check the unrestricted sprawl of large built-up areas;
• to prevent neighbouring towns merging into one another;
• to assist in safeguarding the countryside from encroachment;
• to preserve the setting and special character of historic towns; and
• to assist in urban regeneration, by encouraging the recycling of derelict and other urban land.

CPRE Cheshire Chairman Andrew Needham said,

"There is a range of views about where development should take place - particularly in Cheshire East. The important thing is for relevant information to be understood by local people.

As part of our campaign to protect the Green Belt, Cheshire Branch plans to collect evidence of its use for recreation, and photographs showing the beauty and tranquillity of these threatened parcels of land.”

We are interested to know how the loss of Green Belt will negatively impact on you and your community?

Do you use the place for recreation or leisure?

Will you lose cherished landscapes?
