Cheshire CPRE 'Buy Local' Awards 2008
Know a business near you that offers great local foods, produced AND packaged within 30 miles of where it’s sold?
Does your local pub serve dishes made from local produce? Does your favourite high street shop or café sell food and drink produced nearby? Or perhaps you know of a farm shop or vegetable box scheme that deserves an award for providing top quality local foods.
If so, we want to hear from you.

CPRE award for Marton farm conversion
Cheshire CPRE has recognised the value of excellent rural redevelopment by awarding a plaque to Church Farm, Marton, where farmer Alan Shufflebotham has converted the redundant farm buildings to create attractive units which are
rented by local businesses.
Located in the ancient village of Marton, the units house a farm shop, cafe, blacksmith’s workshop, kitchen and furniture showrooms and a holistic therapy suite, supporting traditional rural crafts and meeting 21st century needs at
the same time.

Gardeners' tales
Cheshire CPRE members were joined by gardening fans from all over the county when Sam Youd, Tatton Park's renowned Head Gardener, entertained the audience with tales of Head Gardeners, ancient and modern at our 2008 Annual Dinner and AGM, held at Vale Royal Abbey in June.

Budding writers in Bickerton
Cheshire CPRE's Chairman, Peter Raynes, visited Holy Trinity Primary School in Bickerton to present certificates to Evie Butler and Melissa Bellman, who were among the winners of the latest CPRE/ Cheshire Life Landscape Writing Competition.
The winning articles were published in the April edition of Cheshire Life, and were carefully selected by our Judges: Lord Grey of Codnor, Presient of Cheshire CPRE; Andrew Miller, MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston; and Patrick O'Neill, editor of Cheshire Life (now retired). Eco-Towns Shortlist announced
Housing Minister Caroline Flint has announced a shortlist of 15 sites for the development of ‘eco-towns’ – environmentally friendly towns with at least 5,000 homes, local facilities, low-carbon technologies and good public transport.
Cheshire CPRE spoke out strongly against a bid for an eco-town in countryside near Wardle, which was then dropped in the face of opposition, but we were optimistic about a proposed eco-town at Carrington, Trafford, which we felt could meet CPRE’s 10 tests for eco-towns and benefit existing communities in this part of South Manchester.
We were therefore disappointed to see that the Carrington bid did not make the shortlist.
