Local Food mapping comes to Nantwich
CPRE Cheshire are working with volunteers in the Nantwich area to produce a local food map, highlighting the range of fantastic local foods available in the area. We launched the project at the Nantwich Food and Drink festival to a very positive response from the vast majority of members of the public who came and chatted at our stall.
Hector Robb, who is leading the project, commented:
The Nantwich Food Festival was a great success for us, with all consumers we spoke to keenly interested in our project. So many can’t wait for us to publish a comprehensive map of all the great food produced in the Nantwich area.
People are frightened for the future. They see how much food is imported from abroad and, with clever labelling, made to look as if it’s British. They can see how quality of food is being eroded gradually and consistently over they years. Then they taste some local food and they remember just how good food can taste …. They want to preserve the great tastes and textures of fresh and lovingly produced local food for their children and future generations.
So many shared our concern that they just didn’t know where to buy local food. Many were so interested in seasonality issues, buying the right food at the right time of the year. Our comprehensive food map of Nantwich and area, supported with information about each local producer will set that right.
But we need your support to make it work. We need lots of people signing into our food map in a few months time when we have it ready. We need to be able to demonstrate just how important it is to the people of South Cheshire. So if we didn’t catch you and collect your email address at the Nantwich Festival it’s not to late.
