Battle to save Sandbach farmland continues
CPRE planning volunteers put in an objection to the proposal to build on the beautiful farmland below owing to the following points:
- The proposed development site is classified as Open Countryside, which is not eligible for this type of development (section PS8 of the Local Plan)
- CPRE opposes the development of good quality farm land for any non-agricultural development. In addition, this site is high quality land, predominantly Grade 2 and 3A, which should be protected for the future sustainability of food production. The Congleton Borough Local Plan states that poor quality land should be developed before land of higher quality, and brownfield sites are available in the Sandbach area and should therefore be developed in preference to sites such as that at Abbey Fields.
- The proposed site is outside the Settlement Zone line
- The applicant has not adequately proven an urgent need for more housing in the Sandbach area
