Tell us how you feel about the Cheshire Countryside and you could see your words in print.

The Campaign to Protect Rural England has been fighting to protect our countryside since 1926. In just over eight decades of achievement, the countryside campaigners can count the establishment of National Parks, giving everyone access to magnificent landscapes, and the setting up of Green Belts to halt urban sprawl among their many successes. But increasing pressures for new roads, housing and warehousing means many areas of our Cheshire countryside are still under threat.

We have teamed up with Cheshire Life Magazine, which is packed with photos of some of our county's most neautiful spots, to give Cheshire residents the chance to highlight their favourite rural area.

We are asking aspiring writers to tell us what makes their favourite place in Cheshire special to them, and how they would feel if it was ever under threat. The competition is open to non-professional writers of all ages, and entries from children, schools and adult education writing groups are very welcome. There are three categories: age 11 and under (250-word articles), 18 and under (450-word articles) and over 18 (650-word articles). Entries must reach CPRE Cheshire by 31st November 2009. The winner in each age category will be published in Cheshire Life in the summer of 2011.

Becca Nelson (Cheshire CPRE’s Press and Membership Officer and the organiser of the competition) commented "As a mum with three young girls who all adore the countryside, it’s so important to me that our wonderful landscapes and green spaces are preserved so that future generations can enjoy the countryside that we take for granted.

“Our charity covers the historic county of Cheshire, the same area as Cheshire Life magazine, and we want to hear from you about your favourite green space in the county – it could be one of our great landscapes, a pocket of rural tranquillity in an urban setting, or maybe a place for exploring and adventure!”
