Star count results indicate darker skies
Many thanks to those who took part in our 2021 star count!
Despite lockdown restrictions, we had a record year for star count participants. All the observations have now been plotted on a map on the National CPRE website (link below), but the good news is that not only did more people than ever take part, but more people than previously experienced truly dark skies. The number reporting severely light-polluted skies was down by 10% from 61% to 51% which is great news.
Truly dark skies are a key element of tranquillity, and help to mark the boundary between rural and urban areas. Let us know if you know of any great spots in Cheshire for stargazing!
