Let us know about your lockdown local food heroes

Our new map will highlight local food suppliers on the doorstep and farm gate schemes, local restaurants and cafes doing takeaway or delivery meal services, and other lockdown food heroes – and we need your help to find them!
Panic buying and shortages in the supermarkets made many of us look for alternative places to shop – and at the same time, farmers whose produce was used mainly in the hospitality industry were left unable to sell their products.
But now, communities have started to share information locally about suppliers who have helped them out during the Covid-19 crisis – veg delivery schemes, farm gate honesty boxes, farm shops with flour in stock, or doorstep deliveries of essentials like milk and eggs.
Not only can local foods taste better, they also cut down on carbon by reducing food miles, and buying from small local producers can have a beneficial effect on the local economy.
We really want to highlight Cheshire’s fantastic local produce, and to recognise the extra help that some suppliers have offered in these difficult times, via our local food map and our lockdown local food heroes campaign.
To nominate a local food lockdown hero, please send us a photo with a comment letting us know where the supplier is, and why you are nominating them.
You could also nominate local delivery services or farm shops that provide a great range, super local produce or environmentally friendly aspects – such as milk delivery rounds using glass bottles, or veg box schemes that help you to cut down on plastic packaging.
We will add them to our online local food map, and highlight them via our social media channels.
