Wanted: sites for funded Cheshire nature projects

10th June 2026

Do you have unproductive land that may be suitable for nature recovery? Cheshire’s Local Nature Partnership is seeking sites for funded projects.

The Cheshire Local Nature Partnership (LNP) – of which Cheshire CPRE is a member – is a cross sector partnership formed to take a strategic overview of the natural environment across Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East and Warrington

One of a network of LNPs across the country, the Partnership brings together local organisations, businesses and communities to integrate the needs of nature, people and the economy.

The Partnership is rooted in the principle that a healthy, properly functioning natural environment is the foundation of a sustainable economy, prospering communities, and personal wellbeing: what’s good for nature is also good for business and people!

Connecting business funders with landowners

A key part of the LNP’s role is to connect those owning or managing unproductive land suitable for nature recovery with businesses and organisations looking to support projects under either regulatory rules or voluntary environmental commitments.

Types of projects

Projects range from landscape scale action to species recovery and restoring rivers, hedges, woodlands and wetlands. BNG and natural capital initiatives are an important part of the mix.

Local Habitat Map: potential actions by location

The LNP’s Nature Recovery Strategy includes a Local Habitat Map. While not prescriptive, the map shows actions that have been identified as those that would best enhance nature recovery in the particular area, so you can see what might be appropriate in your area. The map informs Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) delivery and can help with planning Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes.

What the LNP are looking for now

Currently, the LNP are particularly looking for sites for the following:

  • The upcoming Weaver-Gowy water resilience programme – wetland or floodplain meadows
  • The Bollin to Mersey Nature Recovery project
  • The Mersey Forest Trees for Climate programme
  • Reinstating hedgerows or creating new ones

They would also like to hear from landowners with BNG units available or who are considering BNG – the team can direct you to colleagues who can help you get registered.

Are you interested?

If you think your unproductive land could be a good fit for nature recovery, please get in touch with the LNP at naturesrecovery@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk or via the LNP contact form.
