Objection to 88 houses off Welton Drive Wilmslow 25/3735/FUL
We objected in December 2025 to the proposal for 88 dwellings on land off Welton Drive in Wilmslow on the following grounds:
Loss of green belt
the applicant argues that because Alderley Edge is a village, the Green Belt purpose of preventing neighbouring towns from merging does not apply and the land can therefore be considered grey belt available for development. However, the growth of Alderley Edge and the facilities it now has make it clearly a town.
Impact on hedgerows
of the six hedgerows on the site classed as ‘important’, one would be mostly removed and five others would have sections removed. We contend that retaining protection for existing hedgerows should be a priority.
Loss of productive agricultural land
Crops are grown and harvested here.
Flood risk
Run off water from the built area would drain into areas already subject to regular flooding.
